Which Instruments Can I Play in the Swing Band?
While New Horizons Music encourages everyone to pursue playing any musical instrument* they desire, our Swing Band program’s main focus for instruction and performance opportunities is for standard Swing/Jazz Band instruments, as shown in the list below.
PLEASE NOTE: Space Limitations — To ensure that registered participants get adequate playing time and we have a balanced ensemble, we need to limit the number of musicians for certain instruments. For Piano and Drum Set, we are limited to two (2) musicians per instrument, and playing time is shared. If the maximum number of registered musicians for an instrument has been reached, it will be indicated within the registration form. If desired, you can complete and submit the registration form to be added to a waiting list.
Note: If YOUR instrument is NOT LISTED below, you may still be able to participate — but there may not be a sheet music part written for your instrument; in that case, you may either sit out on that piece, or you’ll need to read from another instrument’s part (and/or possibly transpose from another instrument’s part).

Eligibility Requirements for the Swing Band
While no audition or prior playing of swing, jazz, Latin or improvisation will be required, beginner musicians will not be invited to join the swing band. **Musicians must be currently playing their chosen instrument for at least two years and know how to proficiently read music.

UPCOMING SESSION DATES
Sessions:
- Winter 2026 –
Rehearsals: January 8 thru February 26 (8 weeks)
Tuition: $80
NOTE: March 5 will be either a make-up rehearsal due to bad weather cancelation during the Winter Session or a bonus rehearsal (if a make-up date is not required). Either way, we will rehearse on March 5, 2026.
- Spring 2026 –
Rehearsals: March 12 thru May 14 (10 weeks), plus Spring Concert: Saturday, May 16, 2:00 p.m., Xavier Middle School
Tuition: $100
